The CSRA Summer Bucket List: Things to Do Near Grovetown & North Augusta
Summer in the CSRA hits different when you're living in the middle of it all.
Whether you're craving a lazy afternoon on the lake, a spontaneous road trip to the coast, or just the kind of Saturday morning that ends with ice cream and zero regrets. The Augusta area is one of the most underrated summer home bases in the Southeast. And right now, Ivey Homes has new construction communities in Grovetown, GA and North Augusta, SC that put all of it within easy reach.
We put together the ultimate summer bucket list for CSRA locals, from close to home must-do's to full-on day trip adventures. Check them off one by one. Then come home.
Close to Home (Under 30 minutes)
Hit the Augusta Riverwalk
One of Augusta's crown jewels, the Augusta Riverwalk stretches along the Savannah River from 6th to 10th streets and is free, walkable, and endlessly fun in summer. Let the kids run through the splash fountain at 8th street plaza, stroll the upper level for river views, and browse the Saturday Market at the River for local produce, handmade goods, and live music.
Kayak the Augusta Canal
For a slower, scenic pace, nothing beats paddling the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area. Rent a kayak and drift past 19th century mill buildings and lush shoreline or level up with a History & Nature Boat Tour to learn how the canal helped shape Augusta's textile industry. It's one of those experiences that feels like a history lesson and a nature walk wrapped into a morning on the water.
Spend a Day at Clarks Hill Lake
Just a short drive from both Grovetown and North Augusta, Clarks Hill Lake is one of the Southeast's largest lakes at 70,000 acres. Boat ramps, sandy beaches, fishing, hiking trails, and wildlife viewing make this the perfect summer escape that never requires a hotel. Pack a cooler and call it a perfect Saturday.
Catch a GreenJackets Game in North Augusta
Minor league baseball is a summer institution and the Augusta GreenJackets, Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, play right across the Savannah River at SRP Park in North Augusta. Think affordable tickets, great food, gorgeous waterfront stadium views, and the kind of laid-back summer night energy that's impossible to recreate anywhere else.
Walk or Bike the Greeneway in North Augusta
Known locally as "The Greeneway", this 7+ mile paved trail traces a former railroad line through North Augusta and is one of the area's best kept secrets. It's open daily from dawn to dusk, with multiple access points including Riverview Park. Walk it, run it, bike it and add it to your regular rotation once you're living nearby.
Easy Day Trips (1-2.5 Hours Away)
Savannah, GA - 2.5 Hours South
Few American cities do summer charm like Savannah. Wander the moss-draped squares of the Historic District, browse River Street, grab lunch at a sidewalk cafe, and make your way to the coast for a bonus stop at Tybee Island - a laid back beach town with a beautiful stretch of sand, historic bars, and that distinctly unhurried Southern coastline energy. It's a full day adventure the whole family will talk about all summer long.
Greenville, SC - 2 Hours North
Greenville surprises first-timers every single time. Falls Park on the Reedy is breathtaking, a waterfall in the heart of a downtown greenway. The walkable Main Street is packed with independent restaurants, boutiques, and the famous Liberty Bridge. Kids love the Downtown City Plaza Splash Pad, and the Children's Museum of the Upstate is a rainy-day backup plan that's genuinely worth it even in the sunshine.
Charleston, SC - 2.5-3 Hours East
Charleston is never a bad idea. Spend a morning wandering Rainbow Row, stroll the Battery, and explore the historic City Market. Take a carriage ride through the antebellum streetscapes, and squeeze in seafood at a Lowcountry restaurant before the drive home. If you can swing a weekend, add a day at Folly Beach or Sullivan's Island to make it a proper coastal escape.
Atlanta, GA - 2.5 Hours West
When you need big city energy, Atlanta delivers. The Georgia Aquarium is world-class, Piedmont Park is perfect for a summer afternoon, and Six Flags Over Georgia is the theme park summer bucket list staple. With Stone Mountain, the BeltLine, and Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta has enough to fill a dozen day trips without repeating yourself.
The Weekend Escape (3+ Hours)
Tybee Island, GA - The Classic Beach Day
A straight shot south of Savannah, Tybee has that old-school beach town personality. Historic dive bars that have been around since 1948, a beautiful shoreline, laid-back restaurants, and none of the overcrowded resort energy you'd find elsewhere. Pack the sunscreen, the cooler, and enough gas money. Worth every mile.
Asheville, NC - The Mountain Getaway
Few weekend trips top Asheville for sheer variety. Known as "Beer City USA" for its concentration of independent breweries, Asheville is also home to the stunning Biltmore Estate - a 250-room French Renaissance château in the Blue Ridge Mountains that has to be seen to be believed. With incredible hiking, world-class restaurants, and a creative arts scene unlike anything else in the Southeast, make a weekend of it.
