The Ivey Family marks 30 years of building homes in Augusta!

Categories: News | Posted: July 24, 2014

My brother Mark and I were introduced to the homebuilding industry in 1984 when our father, Jake, started building homes in Augusta. While we could have gone to work for our father after college, we both felt it was important to establish ourselves independently and fulfill the other aspirations we had at the time.

Mark became vice-president of a statewide engineering firm, while I was a vice-president for a multi-national real estate firm. We both enjoyed success in our respective fields, but the entrepreneurial seed planted by our father never left us.

In 2004, we formed Ivey Residential. When we started out, we knew we wanted to differentiate ourselves from the competition. We also knew that with our family name as part of the company, we had a lot to live up to. We used our prior experiences, Mark’s in civil engineering and mine in in real estate, to create a system where we could offer a better home at a very competitive price while providing good personalization choices and options, and in a framework that made the process easier. Despite one of the worst housing recessions our country has ever seen, our practices have served us well.

Our father died July 26th, four years ago. In his honor, we’d like to remember Jake Ivey for the legacy he left not only to us and to the home building community, but throughout the Augusta region. His involvement in the community and his servant leadership is something we all aspire to.
