What makes flooring green?

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: October 9, 2009

Green is something we never forget. Ivey has made the commitment to offer our home-buyers sustainable flooring that is not only beautiful for the environment but beautiful for your home. We are green in all flooring categories from toe tickling nylon carpet, to our timeless Epic Hardwood, to many of our stylish 40% recycled tiles.  Not only are these floors eco-friendly, but they are also proudly made in the USA.

There is a lot of green washing out there. So we’d like to clear the air (pardon the V.O.C. pun) and let you know about our environmentally friendly floors. Let’s discuss carpet first.

Ivey is proud to offer Shaw nylon 6 – from our included carpet and every level in between.  Our nylon 6 carpet fiber is not only resilient, but it is 100% recyclable. Next time around it can still be carpet – generation after generation.  After your carpet has lived its useful lifecycle, we can take it and recycle it back into carpet here in Augusta, GA at Shaw’s Evergreen Recycling Facility. It never loses color, clarity, or quality and never has to hit a landfill.  It has earned the prestigious Cradle to Cradle certification for this closed loop process.  Also, look for our Anso nylon 6 carpet which is not only recyclable but has recycled content in it too!  It’s green by nature, fashionable by design.  That’s why we call it nylon and on and on and on and on and on…..In addition, all of our carpets are also CRI Green Label Plus certified for low V.O.C.’s (volatile organic compounds.) Plus, carpet carries an R-Value in your home.  It is proven to be the best flooring insulator which helps to reduce your energy bills.

We are just as green on our hardwood as we are in our carpet offerings (although, our hardwoods do come in lovely shades of brown.)  Our Epic wood line comes from responsibly managed domestic forests.  You can choose from a wide array of domestic species:  Oak, Hickory, Maple, Birch, American Walnut, and American Cherry. Whether your style is traditional, modern, or rustic we have you covered.  Epic is available from sleek looks to true custom hand-scraped styles.  All of our Epic wood is Cradle to Cradle certified and contains an innovative Envirocore that uses 50% less newly harvested trees.  It’s simple math: 2 trees – 1 tree = Epic.  That’s why Epic hardwood is harder, denser, and of course, greener.

Come visit our Ivey Design Center today to see for yourself that you don’t have to sacrifice style, design, or your pocketbook to go green.

At one of our recent company meetings I gave a summary of our past 12 months customer comments and satisfaction scores.  I’m happy to report that we had a 100% “Would Recomend” rate on our shortly after closing survey for the period 8/1/08 – 7/31/09 with an 83% response rate.  I’m told these are outstanding numbers for our industry, so I’m very proud of our team.

However, I got curious to how many months we had kept our 100% “Would Recomend” on our shortly after closing survey.  I had to go back to 2006 to find a would not recomend.  About that time we got that “would not recomend” we had started putting some quality assurance programs in place.  Since that time I think we have gotten better in managing the building process from quality assurance, buyer responsiveness, on time delivery, and providing a good value.

We’re certaintly not perfect, but we’ve got a great staff that certaintly tries to be.  For more information on our scores, click the GuildQuality link on our website.
