Homeowner Tip | Spring Lawn Maintenance

Categories: Home Ownership, Homeowner How to's, Tips, Uncategorized | Posted: April 11, 2018

Ivey Homes Exterior Spring CleaningEven though the weather keeps wanting to go back to winter on some days, it is officially Spring! Spring always brings to mind the term “Spring Cleaning”. Spring cleaning does not only apply to the interior of your home, but your exterior as well.

Now is the time to rake up, pick up and remove leaves and debris left from the Winter months.  As well as, trimming back shrubs, and planning your spring flower beds. Freshening up your pine straw or mulch beds and to fertilize your yards, shrubs, and trees are also a good idea this time of year. Pre-emergent or post-emergent can be used for weed control not only in spring, but summer too.  If you are unsure what type of fertilizer you should be using, you can hire a landscaper to do this for you or inquire with the Columbia County Extension Agent-Tripp Williams.

It is also a good time to touch up or repaint mailbox posts, to freshen them up.  As well as perhaps replace a fading copper top, on the post. Local hardware stores carry inexpensive replacements of this copper top; they also offer some with solar lights! They can be found in stores like Lowes or Home Depot.

After all of the pollen is done coming down, you may also want to consider power washing the exterior of your home. As well as cleaning screens, windows, and gutters.
