cutting energy cost at home

Today is National Cut Energy Cost Day, random, but read on and find out how you can save money at home everyday!

  • Use a Programmable Thermostat – Most of us work during the day and home sits empty heating and cooling as usual while no one is home… well, maybe the fur babies. While away from home at work or on vacation set the temperature accordingly and your heating and cooling won’t run when it is not actually needed saving you money!
  • Shut off the Water While Brushing Your Teeth – Who’s guilty? Did you know leaving the water running while brushing your teeth can waste up to 3 gallons of water!
  • Wash Larger Loads of Laundry & Dishes – According to ENERGY STAR, washing full loads can save you more than 3,400 gallons of water each year.

Everyone likes to save money and purchasing an ENERGY STAR Certified Ivey Home is the perfect start to cutting energy costs at home. Ivey is committed to building 100% ENERGY STAR Certified New Home, no matter the community or price point. When Ivey Homes was looking for something to set their homes apart, Matt and Mark Ivey settled on the ENERGY STAR program because of the great benefits to the consumer and the environment.

The Certifed ENERGY STAR Program is regulated by the EPA and each Ivey home is third-party tested to make sure it meets these strict standards. Homeowners receive their ENERGY STAR Certification and can move in with peace of mind that they have purchased a healthier, well-built home that is good for the environment that will save them money every month on utility cost.

Do Your Homework

Building a home is a big deal, which is why doing your homework on whom you want to build your home is a big deal as well. When picking your builder, some things you may want to consider are:

– How long have they been in business?

– How many homes have they built?

– Everyone says they offer great customer service, but how is this measured? Any third party certifications? Will the builder let you talk to a random sample of home buyers?

– Do they get any third party certifications on the energy efficiency? How do their homes stack up to code built homes?

– Quality of construction. Are the doors, windows, floor coverings and building materials of good quality? Adequate attention to detail? Are appliances and fixtures a brand name you trust?

– Personalization. Does the builder give you adequate choices to personalize your home? Does the builder have a designer and design center to help with your selections?

– Financing. Does the builder have preferred lenders with good finance options that are right for you?

If you are considering Ivey Homes as your builder, we are thrilled! To help shorten your research time, here are our answers to the above questions:

  1. How long have they been in business? Ivey Homes was started in 2004 when Matt and Mark Ivey took over the business from their father, Jake Ivey.
  2. How many homes have they built? We build between 165-180 homes a year.
  3. Customer Service. Everyone says they offer great customer service, but how is this measured? We send out surveys at each step of our process to gain insight on this. Contract, design appointment, and closing. After closing we send a survey through a 3rd party survey system called Guild Quality.
Will the builder let you talk to a random sample of home buyers? We have no problem letting you speak to current homeowners and we consistently have reviews posted on our website and social media channels.
  4. Energy Efficiency. Do they get any third party certifications on the energy efficiency? We are the ONLY 100% ENERGY STAR Certified builder in the CSRA. This means that we build to code, Earth Cents, and every other energy efficiency code and then some.
    5. Quality of construction. Are the doors, windows, floor coverings and building materials of good quality? We stand behind our products that are put in by local businesses that we trust.
Adequate attention to detail? Our superintendents are constantly checking the statuses of homes and that things are being done correctly. You are also welcome to make an appointment to walk your house as well during the build process.
Are appliances and fixtures a brand name you trust? We use Whirlpool appliances and Delta faucets in all of our homes.

    6. Personalization. Does the builder give you adequate choices to personalize your home? We are one of the only builders in the CSRA that has a dedicated, state-of-the-art Design Studio. The Design Studio houses all of our options that are available in our homes, so that you don’t have to drive all over town. The only exception to this is lighting, you will have to go to Southern Lighting Gallery to make those selections.
Does the builder have a designer and design center to help with your selections? Our Certified Design Consultant, Robin, is on site during your design appointment and our monthly Preview Nights.
    7. Financing. Does the builder have preferred lenders with good finance options that are right for you? We have several preferred lenders that are available to you that specialize in financing for all different types of home buyers.
