Building a Home in a Pandemic

It’s taken us a few months to really get into our groove during the pandemic, but now that we feel we have a handle on the changes in the building and buying process, we thought it would be helpful to gather our tips and advice for building your new Ivey Home during a pandemic.

  • Sales/Model Home Visits – This is the first step in the process of building your new home. During this visit you go over floor plans, homesites, and community specifics. Since the pandemic began, we have gone to appointment-only in our model homes. Along with this, we’ve implemented an Online Sales Counselor Program which gives you the opportunity to speak with our sales team virtually. With this option, you can safely and conveniently have all your questions answered via text, email, or phone and even schedule an appointment for an onsite visit when you’re ready.
  • Design Studio Appointment – One of the most exciting steps during the building process is visiting the Savannah River Region’s largest design studio to chose colors and finishes for your new home. As a precaution, we’ve limited the number of guests that can attend these appointments to only those under contract. In addition to limiting attendees, our design consultant is also sending photos and videos of options ahead of your visit to help in the decision making process. Lastly, we are also offering fully virtual design appointments should you choose to forego an in-person visit or if you’re out of town buying sight unseen.
  • Construction Delays and Material Shortages – We are seeing a high demand for construction materials across the nation which puts pressure on pricing as well as increasing delays on materials. As a result of this, sometimes buyers are asked to reselect some design options. While this is not an ideal situation for the builder or the buyer, we realize that it is an unfortunate byproduct of the times we are facing.
  • Closing Schedule – Due to high volumes of real estate transactions, as your home nears completion, your estimated closing date can be impacted. This can be caused by construction/material delays or closing attorney delays. Just know that the Ivey Team is going to be in contact with you every step of the way to ensure a smooth process.

We know that this is a crazy time for everyone. You have had to learn how to buy a home during a pandemic while we continue to learn how to build a home during a pandemic. We ask for your flexibility and patience and just remember, we’re all in this together! Contact us today to get started building your dream home!
