Ivey Residential earns award for protecting the environment
through superior energy efficiency

EVANS, Georgia, March 5, 2013 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Ivey Residential with a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for their continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency. Ivey Residential’s accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2013.

Ivey Residential, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2006, will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. The iveyWise program, developed exclusively by Ivey Residential, includes features and benefits that ensure each new home is on the cutting edge of efficiency, affordability and convenience, while employing the most progressive construction techniques. An iveyWise home includes features and construction techniques that go over and above what the International Code Council prescribes in the International Building Code for new construction.

Across the U.S., top companies and organizations are leading the way toward a more energy-efficient future through their participation in ENERGY STAR.
Over the last 20 years, with help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

“Ivey Residential is committed to increasing energy efficiency with our iveyWise program, and through our partnership with ENERGY STAR. Ivey was the first builder in the Augusta area to go 100% ENERGY STAR and is one of a select few that still builds 100% ENERGY STAR. In addition, we’ve worked many years to balance the many green choices available between costs and payback,” said Matt Ivey.

"EPA is recognizing Ivey Residential for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award - the 2013 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award,” said Bob Perciasepe, Acting Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “Ivey Residential leads the field with their commitment to energy efficiency and demonstrates how all Americans can save energy, save money, and create a healthier environment.”

The 2013 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the nearly 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

Ivey Residential Constructs First Custom-Built LEED Home in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA January 5, 2012

The first home in the Central Savannah River Area to be built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certification is underway, and Ivey Residential is leading the way.

Matt and Mark Ivey received a call in late 2010 with an interesting new client request they had yet to receive since forming Ivey Residential in 2004. Custom-built homes were a cinch—in fact, all of Ivey Residential homes are custom built. But they had never constructed a LEED-certified home. This would be their first.

Well known in Georgia and South Carolina for constructing quality energy-efficient homes, the brothers quickly said “yes.” In fact, building homes to EPA’s ENERGY STAR® specifications was an Ivey Residential building standard, not an exception. Construction of a LEED-certified home would further prove their commitment to green building.

“Clients Jim and Heidi Mayfield said their top criterion was that the home must be LEED certified. They had conducted extensive research on what was required to build a LEED-certified home, as well as research on several other green building options,” said Matt Ivey. “Knowing our commitment to green building, the Mayfield’s contacted Ivey Residential to ensure their request would be met.”

Matt, who holds a master’s in real estate, said the couple worked with local home designer Craig Peel to include the green features they desired.

The custom home, located on Old Stevens Creek Road, features six bedrooms, six full baths, two 1/2 baths, a large vaulted great room, a chef’s kitchen, a formal dining room, a basement family room, a vaulted office area, a crafts room, a loft area and two laundry rooms.

“The house features green items such as concrete that contains 30 percent fly ash or recycled content, low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and flooring, on-demand hot water heaters, ultra low E windows, high efficiency HVAC equipment, compact florescent lights, low flow toilets and fixtures, high performance insulation and many other green features,” said Mark Ivey, who is a registered engineer. “In addition, the crawl space of the house will be encapsulated to keep all humidity out from under the house and improve air quality inside the house.”

The Mayfield residence is anticipated to use over 30% less energy than a comparable home. The two most important features of a LEED-certified home are durability and energy efficiency.

“LEED for Homes is designed to be among the most stringent green home programs, aimed at the top 25% of builders in the U.S.,” said Abe Kruger of Kruger Sustainability Group (KSG). “LEED takes into account all aspects of the home from water usage to indoor environmental quality, while ENERGY STAR strictly evaluates the energy efficiency of a home and was not designed as a green building program.”

Abe Kruger is the third party verifier and consultant on the Mayfield’s LEED-certified project. Kruger will inspect the home twice (once during construction and again at completion) to ensure compliance with ENERGY STAR and LEED for Homes requirements.

In addition to LEED certification, the Mayfield residence will also be certified under the latest ENERGY STAR® specifications.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) was established in 1993, releasing LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a national green certification program for commercial construction in 1998. In 2004, the USGBC introduced the pilot version of LEED for Homes and the program was officially released nationally in 2008.
